Games Trading Out

During Urbanscape 2010 that happened at KLPac. Me and Mak set up a stall there and selling our stuff. Mak selling his own label CDs (Soundscape Records) & I'm selling my used CDs collection and board games. I've sold 4 copies of board games, which I don't really play any more or don't quite like it. Here is the list:

This is my birthday present a few years ago, and I'd only play it once or twice. This Monopoly is cool becos of the Simpsons, and that's all. The rest is the same as other Monopoly games.

My friend help my purchase this game a while ago 'cos found it in a warehouse sale and it was real cheap. Eventually it is a fake edition or pirated game. The game is still the same as any Monopoly games out there except they added a new "Jedi Force Power" on the dice rolled result. Played it once.

Yes, another fake pirated version which my friend help me bought it. I haven't play this yet and it's brand new actually. In the end, it sold to a Malay girl at KLPac.

By far the best Zombie theme board game out there that you can get. You must be wondering why I sell it. I quite like this game, it's fun to play with, if with the right group. I've played this game for like 6 or 7 times, it was fun at first and it turns out quite boring after a few plays becos of its high luck based dice rolling element. This is a great gateway game to introduce to non-gamers but not fun any more for my gaming group. That's why I'm trading it out.

I still have some other games that I really want to trade out, so I can get new games from the money I get. Sadly no one interested in those. These are:

1. Arkham Horror (WHO WANTS IT?!)
I played this game couple of times, solo or with 3 - 4 players and I hate this game. I bought this game becos I thought it was cool and its BGG ranking is quite high, so I went for it. In the end, I just wish someone wants it from me.

Again, I was attracted by all those miniatures in the box, what a bargain that comes with the game. This game is OK to me even though it's high luck based element, but it's a fantasy theme game! A World of Warcraft! None of my friends enjoy this game becos it was a drag of time, 4P game for like 4 - 5 hours? That's too long. It's been a while this game is hiding somewhere at a corner of my house and it won't be on the table again I guess.

3. RoboRally (WHO WANTS IT?!)
Again, high BGG ranking. A true family friendly theme game, just not suit my gaming group style. It's kinda boring game actually. This is an out-of-print Avalon Hill Games.

4. Monopoly City (WHO WANTS IT?!)
I used to be a Monopoly Games collector before I really step my foot into all other great games out there, especially Euro Designer's Games. This new 3D version sure will be in my collection. In the end, it is still Monopoly. I hate Monopoly!

5. Monopoly: Boutique Edition (WHO WANTS IT?!)
No need to say much. I hate Monopoly!

6. Monopoly: Deluxe Edition (WHO WANTS IT?!)
Again, I hate Monopoly!!!

7. Nexus Ops (WHO WANTS IT?!)
This is a great game! A light weight gateway war game. In the end it just too light for us. This is an out-of-print Avalon Hill Games.

Finally, here are some pictures of what's happened that day:

Lots of people hanging around at the Market Place.

Here is me & Mak's booth.

Goa

Date: 04-07-2010

Venue: Mage Cafe

Description: We played the game for second time and this time played it right except one rule was played wrong (again?!), we didn't distribute 1 colonist card to the player who failed to colonize a new land. Most of that we done right. Arthur left for a dinner, ET don't want another round and Max join us for a 3 players game. Tiles Auctions happened this time and it was quite cut-throat and fun to do that. Again, this game finish within 90 minutes and it was fun all the way. It was a close game, only 2 points separate the players end game scores standings. This is a easy game to teach to new players if they are a casual gamers. They can't pick it up real soon if they concentrate on what's going on around. There were too many things happening in the game, non-gamers will surely having headache when they first attempt to try this. I quite like this game 'cos its strategic gameplay and low luck element. Randomness of the tiles placement and Expeditions card draw don't really affect the gameplay, you have to manage all resources and crisis well, keep all in balance and you will not stuck in the last place.

End game scores: Ryan (winner) - 40pts , me - 38 pts & Max - 36 pts

Max pick it up very fast after the second phase of the game, when "B" tiles are played.

Flag & Tiles Auctions happening.

My plantations and colonies board.

Venue: Mage Cafe

Description: Ryan (shop owner) ask us to try this game, Rudiger Dorn's "Goa". He played it few years ago and can't recall how the game works out. He ask me to help him read through the rules and play the game with him. I roughly read it through in 20 minutes and get the basics and starts the game with 4 players. "Goa" is a game that merge mechanics very well like Auction and Resource Management. It's not that heavy but hard to pick up at first, but after a few rounds or a game, you'll started to know what's going on. After I roughly finish the rules, I thought it is going to be a boring game since the theme is just "meh", but in the end it turns out quite fun and strategic. We finish this first game within 100 minutes and we played it WRONG! Hell yes! We miss the Tile Auction part. We thought it was just simply place the number tokens and claim it. Nevermind, we've done it right in the next game.

End game scores: Ryan (winner) - 46 pts, Arthur - 42 pts, ET - 38 pts & me - 26 pts

"Goa" main board, where all the tiles and cards are placed. Player interactions only happened here.

Player's Plantations & Colonies sheet, again this is important too. Player must keep an eye on it all the time to maintain the balance of all, money, resources, colonists, ships and etc.

Shadows over Camelot

Date: 27-06-2010

Venue: Mage Cafe

Description: Phang left after 2 games and Suki join us for the third game. Max join us for the fourth game, a 4P game. Both third and fourth game are played with the Traitor mechanic and it was a blast to us, we enjoy the game so much by accusing the others. In the end, we lose both third and fourth game, which the fourth game is the most controversial game we've played so far. 6 white and black swords were on the table at the end game and the traitor (Max) reveal himself at last and turn 2 white swords into black which makes the Heroes lose. Damn! We just didn't expect Max is the traitor, he covered himself so well during the game. By the way, Suki was the traitor at our third game, which I caught him very soon as he used his King Arthur's special power to exchange an useless "Grail" white card with me. By that time, the Grail Quest are already done and I needed a Fight Card to fight the Siege Engine at Camelot. In the end, we enjoyed the game so much with the Traitor mechanic in play, it was just plain fun. The session will be happening very soon, as soon the World Cup 2010 is over.

End game scores: Traitor def Players in both game

My white knight.

ET's green knight, Sir Gawain.

King Arthur is the traitor!

Fighting Siege Engines at the Camelot.

Grail quest in play.

Me checking out the black card during the Progression of Evil phase.

Max the traitor.

Suki, traitor of our the third game.

ET with the sad face while checking out her white cards on hand.

Alert! Saxon approaching at the beach!

Shadows over Camelot

Date: 27-06-2010

Venue: Mage Cafe

Description: Played "Shadows over Camelot" for the first time with 3 players (Phang, ET & me). We didn't used the "Traitor Variant" to test and be familiar with the rules. We played "Three Brave Knights" variant instead, as the Rule Book suggested. The game is not that interesting I guess, if without the "Traitor" in play, puzzle solving or crisis management mechanic works out way more better with "Pandemic", that means "Shadows over Camelot" is only OK if without the Traitor element. The rules are quite easy to pick up and the game play fast pace & smoothly, and we've tried 2 games of the "Three Brave Knights" variant, which we lose one and won one (cheated a bit). The game is very hard to beat and it's very new and challenging to me.

End game scores:
First game - Game def players (by placing 12 Siege Engines near Camelot)
Second game - Players def game (by placing more white swords than the black when the table is filled with 12 swords)

2 players work together to get the Excalibur sword asap.

We choose to place Siege Engines near Camelot instead of drawing the Black Cards from the deck during the "Progression of Evil" phase, and the Siege Engines are starting to surrounding Camelot very fast.

Not good, black swords are far more than the white.

This is how the board looks like before the end game of our first game. Just one more Siege Engine come in play and we will lose.

This is the board at the almost ending moment at our second game. We won by placing more white swords than the black. Hurray!
